We’d love it if you could come down and check out what the Youth Ambassadors are doing, and maybe give us a hand!

The Youth Ambassadors are drawing attention to marine debris. Single-use plastic is the biggest culprit, accumulating on islands in the Great Barrier Reef, causing damage to habitat and wildlife populations.

Their mission is to host an annual community event to audit the huge amount of marine debris collected by Wild Mob volunteers from the Cumberland Islands. We have over 40 x 150L bags already gathered from 2018 expeditions.

The audit will showcase practical methods of sorting, itemising and categorising debris. We can even identify through barcodes, where plastic has travelled from. This data will be uploaded to Tangaroa Blue, Australia’s national marine debris database, to advocate for global change in reducing plastic pollution.
