The Santa Monica Campus of St Bernard’s College will be piloting the Australian Marine Debris Initiative with students this month. We would like to welcome the students and staff to the project and congratulate them on being the first school in Victoria to join this nationwide project.
Students staying at Santa Monica will be surveying a strip of about 1km of coastline around Eastern View – roughly half way between Aireys Inlet and Lorne. This includes a narrow river mouth – Grassy Creek – that tends to be a bit of a litter trap.
The collection of debris will involve the whole group (28 boys and 3 staff) while the collation of the data will be handled by a group of 4 boys who will use this as their major research project during their 4 week stay. They will then present this project to parents at a presentation night back at school at the end of their time at the Campus.
We look forward to receiving reports on the project and wish the students luck!
