School’s Clean Up Australia!

Heading back to Empire Bay Merritt’s Wharf foreshore for a Clean Up Australia Day activity, 13 students from up Program.

The jobe for the day was to remove small litter from Merritt’s Wharf foreshore to the residential zone, a length of about 600 mtres.

Low tide made sighting the litter much clearer, except for the mud, which the hardier boys handled very well. Oyster material, plenty of plastic, one only tyre, and processed timber, together with eight big bags of litter completed the day with a total of 460 kgs removed. This brings the total rubbish out of Brisbane Waters in 2014 to a mammoth 12.240 tonne!

With perfect weather the students enjoyed a swim and BBQ at Macmasters Beach after the event. Thanks to Gosford City Council for funding this program.
