Santa Monica Campus Back for 2014

The new year brings us new students who yesterday cleaned up the area surrounding the Painkalac Rivermouth at Airey’s Inlet, Victoria. Two groups of 14 boys each worked in sunny conditions on the coast and inside the inlet itself. The day was combined with a couple of canoeing sessions, allowing the boys to recreate in the beautiful environment they had just helped to conserve. Giving the boys the opportunity to develop a relationship with the natural environment, including the coast, is an important part of the program at our school and our partnership with the Tangaroa Blue Foundation helps facilitate this.

The beach was surprisingly clean after the summer holiday period, though the boys still found many bits and pieces of marine debris and litter. The most common findings included glass bottles, cigarette butts, paper packaging and as always, plastics.
