North Gosford Learning Centre Out on the River

The North Gosford Learning Centre joined the Brisbane Waters Foreshore Clean Up program on August 18th for a clean up at Daleys Point and the Empire Bay Channel. The task for the day was to remove reported litter from the bay area south of the Rip Bridge in Daleys Point and to finish the removal of litter on the small island at the end of Empire Bay Channel.

The group was keen for this second outing, and after organising PPE gear, the group headed out for the day’s activity. The weather and tide were good and Maddi Craig was employed as IRB driver as the team headed out to the bay south of the Rip Bridge on the Daleys Point side to remove large amounts of litter in a small area. Five full bags were quickly filled with many plastic bottles and pieces of broken plastic.

The second IRB surveyed the foreshore south of the bay retrieving two tyres, and one full bag of litter. The small island at the end of Empire Bay Channel, which was part completed last month, was completely cleaned. Again plastic bottles, food packaging and beer bottles were collected. Five full bags were retrieved.

It was a very good effort by these students and staff and in all ten bags and tyres weighing approximately 140kg were transferred to the Woy Woy tip with the assistance of Gosford  Council.
