Since 2010 the Chilli Beach Clean Up has been an activity that the students from Lockhart River State School has particpated in, and the 2012 event was no exception!
Students, teachers and parents joined community volunteers, the local Lockhart River Shire and visitors to the area for their annual clean up in July.
The event was held over a week and the whole 5km of Chilli Beach was cleaned removing 5.5 tonnes of debris. The students were part of a community event where over 1 tonne of debris was collected from the northern section of the beach alone.
Afterwards they were treated to a BBQ supplied by Out of the Blue Cafe and the Lockhart River Store and a t-shirt from Tangaroa Blue.
