Holiday Clean Up on the Great Ocean Road

Another class of year 9 boys from St. Bernard’s College in Essendon, Victoria completed a clean up of all rubbish from our local beach here on the beautiful Great Ocean Road last week. 27 boys, split into two groups, scoured the beach and adjacent sand dunes and collected the rubbish found, which they later sorted and recorded.

Once again, plastic items were among those most commonly found. Glass was a popular find too, worryingly so in our sandy beach environment. A full car wheel and tyre was perhaps the most interesting find for the day.

The clean up was done before the long weekend and I hate to think just how much more rubbish was left behind after the holiday.
