Parkfield Primary School

Parkfield School is situated on Chapple Drive, Australind and is the most northern school of what is considered the Inner Bunbury Schools. The catchment area that the school supports is from Travers Drive and the areas to its North. Bus services transport students from Binningup, which at present is our most Northern catchment area.

The school buildings are of a contemporary design, with learning blocks supporting three classrooms and a large wet area / activity and computer area. Specialist facilities are provided for the extensive music program and dance / drama program.

Parkfield School was built in 1993 and due to a growing population and a positive reputation, the student population has grown to 636 full time students from Pre-Primary to year 7. The school also supports four kindergarten groups with a capacity of 80 students. The community surrounding the school is very supportive of the school’s direction and parents play an integral part in school direction, policy and communication.

The School Council meets twice every term and has been integral in establishing a principles and values framework which guides the decision making processes at the school. They have informed school planning processes, drafted and endorsed school policy, questioned performance data and informed the school’s Annual Report. Parents are very active in all areas of the school including buildings and grounds, technology, library and in the making of resources.

The teaching staff work in collaborative teams, facilitated by specialist teachers, in order to support whole school approaches. The staff are committed to contemporary teaching and learning methods.

Parkfield’s “World Ocean Day” with Tangaroa Blue

Two classes of Year Five Students from Parkfield Primary School at Australind journeyed to Buffalo Beach for their World Ocean’s Day excursion. There were 58 students two teachers, seven parents and Anita Kelly from Tangaroa Blue.

Parkfield and Anita have developed a strong partnership over the last two years. Anita brings her wonderful and graphic Marine Debris display to the school and engages with many classes ranging from Year One to Seven. Parkfield students in return help Anita with marine debris collections from coastal areas in need.

Early in the year 17 Year Seven students and a teacher went into Bunbury to collect, sort and count at the BP groin. This was in conjunction with Ian Kiernans'(founder of Keep Australia Beautiful Day) visit to Bunbury.

Upon arrival at Buffalo Beach, the beach looked as clean as a whistle and the students wondered what their teachers were thinking of. No rubbish here! Anita spent a few moments of information and then the two classes headed off, one north the other south. An hour later they returned carrying, hauling, dragging, puffing and panting under their huge loads of debris collected from the beach and the rises of the first dunes.
