Indigenous Rangers

Indigenous Land & Sea Rangers

Indigenous Land & Sea Rangers around the country have been working with Tangaroa Blue Foundation and the Australian Marine Debris Initiative since 2011.

With the Rangers’ assistance vital information and data has been collected, and thousands of tonnes of marine debris has been removed from remote and significant sites across Australia.

Rangers also work with community members, local shire councils, junior rangers and school students on source reduction plans, recycling programs and clean-up events.

Cultural Traditions Giving Back

July 17, 2019November 4, 2020 Carmen Torraca

This week, Tangaroa Blue Foundation extends our heartfelt thanks to musician Ondrej Smeykal from the Czech Republic.

Ondrej was 14 years old, walking along the Charles Bridge in Prague when he first heard the sound of the didgeridoo. Little did he know that the instrument would become such a large part of his life. He is especially grateful because playing the instrument was key to helping him cure his asthma. These days, the didgeridoo is not only part of his livelihood, but also a way to give back to the communities of its origin

Rubbish Art 2019

July 17, 2019 Carmen Torraca

Every year during the Wadeye Festival the Thamarrurr Rangers host a rubbish art competition.

This year we had great entries yet again with participants from the School, Rangers and CDP.
Great prizes were donated, including a washing machine from ENI (gas plant), and vouchers donated by Murrinhpatha Store, TDC Village and TDC Nursery.

We would like to congratulate all participants and thank all the businesses who donated prizes.

Wadeye Recycling Champion Award

November 12, 2017November 12, 2018 Heidi

During 2017 it was great to see so many people in Wadeye involved in the community recycling project. There are many people that work to help clean the community and support our project, and several people deserve special recognition in their efforts keeping Wadeye clean.

Richard Tcherna is the number 1 recycling champion of 2017. Richard is always walking around town with his plastic bags collecting bottles and for his amazing efforts we’d like to award him with a family size washing machine. The washing machine was kindly donated by the ENI gas plant. Read more “Wadeye Recycling Champion Award”

3rd Wadeye Recycling Art Competition

November 12, 2017November 12, 2018 Heidi

Rangers coordinated an art competition within the community to coincide with the Wadeye Festival. The major theme of the artwork is to make art using waste and recycled materials. This is the 3rd consecutive year this activity was conducted and again we had some good support from several organisations and individuals with approximately 12 entries from groups including crèche and school kids and individuals.

The entries were displayed Friday and Saturday 1-2nd September with many people voting for their favourite art pieces. The votes were counted and the art piece with highest number of votes won the first prize. Winners are listed below. Read more “3rd Wadeye Recycling Art Competition”
