Pretty Beach a Whole Lot Prettier!

Clean Up Australia Day sees thousands of Australian’s helping to clean up locations around the country, and Tangaroa Blue volunteers were no exception. Saturday 3rd of March saw 24 volunteers register to help clean up Pretty Beach on Queensland’s north east coast and with such a good turnout we were able to clean up Oak Beach as well!

A total of 1707 items removed from the beaches, weighing 89kg! Most common items were 537 metal beer lids, 190 bits of broken glass, 128 glass beer bottles, 91 cans and 72 cylume glow sticks. This area is used for late night parties and this was reflected in the debris that was collected on the beach and around the shaddy tree area behind the beach. Anyone attending these parties we appeal to you to please take your rubbish home with you afterwards and help keep our oceans and beaches clean!

A big thank you to all the volunteers, Malone’s Butchery, Commonwealth Bank Port Douglas staff, Coffee Club Port Douglas, Amber Rich for coordinating, the Gambling Community Benefit Fund and Cairns Regional Council for free tip fees!
