7 Mile Beach at Broken Head, on NSW’s northern coastline was a hive activity on Sunday 11th March, as the local Mermaid MerPod led a group of 49 volunteers including musician Jack Johnson and his family on a beach cleanup as part of ongoing events in the area.
The group had done a clean up at 7 Mile Beach in November 2011 when 200kg of debris was removed, and were curious as to how much they would find this time, and it turned out they had their work cut out for them!
With a total of 433kg collected in just one hour from 1.2km of beach, bags were transported back to Broken Head where the sorting and counting began, and volunteers were treated to a well earned BBQ lunch!
