Are you sick of the amount of rubbish on your beach?

Well so are we! But if all we do is clean-up, that’s all we’ll ever do! So what is the solution???

Join in a community Source Reduction Plan workshop that actually works on finding practical solutions that stop the flow of rubbish into our oceans in the first place – and we need your local knowledge to do it!

Free Half day workshops will be held in Albany, Bunbury, Rockingham, Geraldton, Karratha and Port Hedland throughout March and April with the goal of creating a local Source Reduction Plan in each region to address what is washing up on your beach. Click on the Read More button to find out where these workshops are being held and how to register.

For the last 10 years, Tangaroa Blue Foundation has been asking volunteers to document everything that they have been removing during their beach clean-ups, now we have a pretty good grasp of what is out there – it’s time to start using this data to create change that stops marine debris from becoming marine debris in the first place.

Volunteers and partners have removed more than 1,130,859 bits of rubbish, weighing over 74.7 tonnes from WA beaches since the WA Beach Clean Up events started in 2004, and all this data tells a story of what is impacting our oceans and marine life.

“When volunteers create and implement a local Source Reduction Plan they can easily check its success through further clean-ups and data collection. This means that beach clean-up volunteers are much more than just rubbish collectors, they are researchers, investigators, and assist in natural resource management.” Said Heidi Taylor, co-founder of Tangaroa Blue Foundation.

All parts of the community, government and industry are encouraged to come along to the workshops, meaning a broad base of knowledge, skills and experience to draw from in the creation of the Source Reduction Plan.
