Sustainable Bubble Tea Project Successfully Implemented in Melbourne

Over the past weeks, Project Coordinator Jane has been visiting bubble tea stores to deliver free posters and chat with store managers about the Sustainable Bubble Tea Initiative.

This initiative is a Source Reduction Plan (SRP) being implemented by Tangaroa Blue across Melbourne, initially focusing on the cities of Melbourne, Maribyrnong, and Greater Dandenong areas.

LSTD Warrnambool initial results

We are pleased to report that the first audit of Let’s Strain The Drains – Warrnambool took place in Archie Graham Community Centre on Saturday 15th May 2021. The audit, coordinated by Tangaroa Blue Foundation, had a great turnout with 23 enthusiastic volunteers, many of whom were members of Geocaching Victoria.

The Let’s Strain the Drains – Warrnambool will be the first stormwater debris monitoring project in Warrnambool, and just the second one across Victoria. This innovative project is supported by the Victorian State Government through the Coastcare Victoria Community Grant, delivered by Tangaroa Blue Foundation & Cleanwater Group with support from the Warrnambool City Council. Let’s Strain the Drains in Melbourne

A Victorian first, the Let’s Strain the Drains project targeted upstream sources of pollutants by installing and monitoring 120 at-source litter traps in the stormwater infrastructure of six metropolitan councils around Port Phillip Bay. Being a significant transport pathway for pollutants, stormwater is a key piece of the marine debris puzzle as it acts as an outflow point for litter in urban runoff. Monitoring work took place from November 2019 to May 2020 and involved six community audit events where 94 volunteers helped to sort and count all captured litter items for inclusion in the Australian Marine Debris Initiative Database. Port Phillip Bay Nurdle Hunt 2020

Over the weekend of March 20 – 22nd, families, individuals, schools and other community groups in the greater Port Phillip Bay area are invited to take part in the Port Phillip Bay Nurdle Hunt. Plastic resin pellets, known as nurdles, are an increasing problem in our marine environment, and we need your help to end nurdle pollution in our marine environment!
